Character History

Origin and Induction

C`gan came to Horizons on March 17, 2004 at the behest of his dragon, Tagath. His goal was (and is) to build the Withered Aegis out of existence. C`gan's early days of Horizons were filled with activity on New Trismus, learning the warrior school, focusing on scholar, blacksmith, and outfitter classes to gain skill enough to join the construction schools. Once he reached Scholar, Blacksmith, and Outfitter 19, he sought out the construction trainers. At that point in time, no one in Obsidian Order had all five construction classes by one person. Several had two or three for their particular choice. When the Council of Elders heard of C`gan's achievement of having all five construction classes, they gave him the title of Obsidian Order Architect, a title he maintains and claims. Primarily, his early construction career focused on building other guildmates' plots in Mahagra and what would later become Blizzard's Reach, also helping to keep the blighted resources of flax and sandstone at bay from encroaching into the plots at Blizzard's Reach. As the guild expanded in membership, and as Istaria gained more settlements, C`gan began helping in other communities as the guild had need. He showed particular aptitude for finding the routes to transport resources freely, using settlement teleporters over the costly town portals. In time, C`gan bought his first plot in Harton Valley near the eastern wall and began his efforts with plot design on Obsidian Order Builders, a construction arm of Obsidian Order for Istaria. From Harton Valley, he moved an unfinished shop later to Duskhold for a larger, more functional plot.

Community Involvement

C`gan's focus on construction soon overwhelmed his want or desire for adventure, finding thrill instead in locating unguarded resources, harvesting guarded ones without dying, and transporting construction resources where they were needed. However, this focus was soon concentrated after the Battle of Merger and the new Order shard appeared. Although his treasured Duskhold plot was gone, he had learned much from it and sought a new place to build at the guild's behest. As guildmates scoured Order shard looking for a suitable town for the entire membership to own, new locations were found that had destroyed machines. Many of Obsidian Order's members kept notes on these locations, as well as what resources were in the area for the sake of having not only a good grasp of the prospective type of town to build there (if they so settled), but what would need built for the good of Istaria. Around this time, there was a call for guilds to send a representative to a community meeting to discuss the future of this new shard. At the meeting, as the discussions lead to exploration and what may await in this new shard, C`gan spoke up, having brought with him the info gathered by Obsidian Order. Suddenly, he was nominated and voted on for being the shard's WorldProjects Team Lead, to undertake the creation of teams to build the community projects in Istaria. After the voting was completed, Tokoz asked C`gan if he would accept the nomination, which he did.

WorldProjects Team

The years in WorldProjects saw an unprecedented amount of skill. Within a short time, detractors in Istaria started ridiculing both C`gan and the team for various reasons. This led on two occasions to people of Order shard leaving the WorldProjects team, often leaving it manned with only members of Obsidian Order. Nonetheless, C`gan's capacity to motivate others to join in led to Build-a-Thons, weekends devoted to particular structures, setting up arrangements for teams to find one another, set up on a resource, and process and place it on the structure of interest. Much of the time, C`gan delighted on being on a team, usually as a gatherer or processor, to allow others to gain experience in the construction classes as well. He encouraged people with higher construction classes to take the gathering jobs so lower level builders could gain the experience, if possible. He also defined the rules of what WorldProjects would encompass, limiting them to structures not placed on plots owned by any member of the community or guild unless such a structure was warranted by the resources of the area and no such structure was already in place. The one and only exception he had that fit in his tenure was a carpentry hall placed in Genevia for the processing of cedar at Cedar's Cove when the woodworking bench at Cedar's Cove was removed. C`gan's tenure as WorldProjects Team Lead ended in 2008 when he resigned at the construction of the final project on his list, a weaver hall near Kirasanct and Morathaven. Though resources had been moved by the tiered revamp of Istaria, C`gan felt it necessary that this project be completed as well, to allow Istaria to be as beautiful as possible.

C`gan remains as WorldProjects Team Lead Emeritus and is on hand to lend aid when new WorldProjects are discovered.

Obsidian Order Builders on Trandalar in the community of Acul

Obsidian Order Builders began as an idea on Dawn shard. C`gan, having recently been awarded the title of Architect, thought of having a community central point for construction for the entire guild, as well as a serviceable site for the Dawn shard community. At first, he was awarded a plot in Harton Valley at 35x35, much too small for any real construction. So, he deemend it to be best for having his personal house and Obsidian Order Builders office, to be used for designing and planning plots. The layout was simple, with the two sslik houses, sandstone walls, and a path leading to each house.

As the guild grew and capabilities grew, Obsidian Order Builders moved from Harton Valley to Duskhold. Though the plot size was significantly larger, allowing for the basic crafthalls for carpentry, enchanting, fitting, masonry, and weaving, not much else would fit. The Duskhold expansion did not last long, being destroyed at the merger of shards.

With merger complete, Obsidian Order sought a new location, where the guild could purchase plots and make a functioning city (one of their prime goals since beta). The opportunity arose with the creation of the new guild plots. Using the guild's many plot tokens and bidding on the guild plots, Obsidian Order won the community of Nong on Sakon Island. C`gan, having had the largest bidding token, won the ownership of the key 50x75 plot and the new Obsidian Order Builders was quickly designed around the tier 4 guildhall, featuring carpentry, fitting, masonry, a mill, and silos with the intent at the time of placing the remaining machines in the guildhall (as this had been discussed with the developers of the time).

During the months of ownership at Nong, the membership of Obsidian Order slowly ceased awakening more and more until a decision was made to abandon Nong in favor of a smaller location with better sized plots and even further expansion capability. Nong was sold to The Iron Circle and Obsidian Order moved north to plots in Acul on Trandalar. In fact, when the plots were purchased by members of Obsidian Order, C`gan chose the northernmost 60x60 for specific purposes. North of Acul were significant resources for steel (a balanced nickel and iron field), oak (a large forest), and glowing essence (from wisps in the forest). This suited the need for having crafthalls nearby. Construction began again, this time having all the construction crafthalls, a tannery, plus C`gan's personal home and office, and some silos hidden under a large archway at the entrance. Also, initially, a tier 2 consigner and pawnbroker were also requested to maintain a temporary pair of shops at the plot during construction, for both sharing of resources and for restocking the empire's coffers of resources that were not needed in the area after construction. In time, when the plot was completed, the consigner and pawnbroker were thanked and sent back to Tazoon and their shops torn down.

The status quo of Obsidian Order Builders was once again changed when the Istarian Council set about to resize smaller, less useful plots across Istaria. In their haste to do an adequate job, Obsidian Order Builders (though not originally on the list) was resized to an 80x60. This extra space allowed for the remodeling of Obsidian Order Builders to include more silos, a gemcrafthall (as gems are located not far to the northwest in the Valley of Repose), a confectioner hall to assist the tannery hall in leatherworking, a cauldron porch for transmuting, and a pottery porch for tinkers.
