Character History
Way too long, I'll admit. Detail to be added later. Dates may also be wrong after year 300. History in brief:
Year 1-80: Hatchling with Lunus father of the Kaer family. Due to a presumed betrayal by his father, Maekrux left his father's lair without permission and disowned himself.
Year 80-100: Maekrux attempted to reach Chiconis without using a travel gate, which were not in extensive use at the time. Saw the rise of the Aegis and experienced many hardships. Met Correthian Avin'kethyr and later started a guild, Tears of the Phoenix, with him. Gained the title Blue Phoenix by his guildmembers. Finally ascended Helian when the Rites of passage were confirmed successful by the factional leaders.
Year 101-180: Due to the Novian Transition, Correthian was pulled into a purple rift. Unwilling to lose his first and truest friend, Maekrux selflessly dived in after him. He spent 80 years among the Stars, searching for Correthian and his wife, Toril, but neither were found and Maekrux presumed them dead. Note that time passes differently in the Rift and Star Realms - only a faction of this time actually passed on Istaria. This is important to understand the lapse in time over his other Star Trips.
Year 180-300: Maekrux attempted to return back to Istaria. Prolonged exposure to the Rift caused his body to lose is planar coherency - he would phase between realms as easily as water through a strainer. Ultimately fell into the court of the Spellweaver, who taught him Star Runes. With these, he was able to find his way home and stay there.
Year 300-325: Maekrux at home on Istaria. The Prime Barrier weakened with his absence and the first Star Dragons began to appear on Istaria. Coincides with the Ancient Rite of Passage, which Maekrux undertakes. Maekrux took one under his wing, Aika, but a star-crossed series of events took place, culminating in Maekrux's first questioning of his race and kyn. Attempting to leave, he crushed one rune holding him in Istaria, but did not crush the other fast enough, resulting in a painful explosion that tore Maekrux into two beings: Resurgam and Maekrux.
Year 326-390: Resurgam traveled back to the court of the Spellweaver and, having lost some memory and still losing more, became embroiled in the Spellweaver's war. At the same time, Maekrux on Istaria originally plotted revenge for his 'murder,' only to be stopped by a broken heart as his eldest son disowned him. He attempted to starve himself to death, almost successfully having lost the Gift to Resurgam. Resurgam eventually comes to his senses and attempts to return, but the Spellweaver forces him to make a promise to return, which he knows Resurgam will keep. Resurgam returns and rallies what support he can, and conducts a ceremony, restoring the two halves and bringing Maekrux back into one being.
Year 391-425: Lives a relatively calm life, teaching as he can, storytelling, and adopting. He brings two more Star Dragons into his life, Athiina and Daeza, and begins raising them. At last the promised time comes and Maekrux leaves to fight the Spellweaver's war.
Year 426-490: Maekrux fights in the Nexus War. Spellweaver ultimately loses, but Maekrux is spared as the Dragon Queen finds Maekrux selflessly risking his very existence to hold together the wildly chaotic and changing flows of magic Malygos had redirected to the Nexus. Maekrux is allowed to return home with the Dragon Queen's blessing, but he is much changed from having to fight an kill other dragons, which is forbidden under Drulkar's old laws.
Year 490-495: Maekrux suffers with Post-Traumatic Stress from the war, and for some time sees visions and memories of the battle and murder he experienced. Though he hides it well, he is fearful that he might harm those around him, and so entirely restructures his life and gives up teaching. After awhile, he is able to put his tattered life back together and falls again into a semi-calm state.
Year 495-496: Not long after being blessed with Kaevaeri, Maekrux's first blood child, he is attacked in his own lair by the goo-drake Maurger. He suffers immensely while incarcerated with his family, ultimately killed when his friends, his grandson, and his son, Daza attempted to save him.
While the Gift doesn't save Maekrux, various safety measures and those who care about him still try to revive him, resulting in not one, but three Maekrux. After some time, it becomes apparent what has happened and one of the three tracks down the other two and absorbs them to return Maekrux to normal.
496-501: Maekrux's life is again in tatters. Daza disowns him, Athina Fades. Realizing how powerless he was to help his family and the damage he has done to his blood son by wishing him to restore his father's bloodline, Maekrux loses faith in himself and decides to renounce the role of Keeper of the Prime Barrier, a barrier which has stood for six thousand years to protect Istaria. He also accepts Kaevaeri as he is and gives up all hope of him restoring the bloodline Maekrux left behind. Both acts have permanently alienated any chance for Maekrux's reconciliation with his father's memory.
501-502: Nyoko restarts the Dragon Academy, and Maekrux is a strong proponent, even taking two students, Laylah and Amalteah. When Maurger returns, Maekrux retreats to his lair, focuses primarily on his two students, though one leaves him. In sheep's clothing, Maurger begins to weave his way into Nyoko's Dragon Academy. The black is challenged only by Ausixen, Maekrux's grandson, but Maekrux himself is afraid to act, as Maurger had stolen a great deal of Rift-magic from him when he had control of his lair before; fearing that Maurger would attack him for the key, he remained safely in his lair, watching. When Ausixen is captured by Maurger, he arranges for his rescue, and travels to the Realm of Fire, where he forges the Soulflame Nail, capable of even killing the goo-drake. Unable to use it himself, he passes it to his grandson, a much holier dragon. After the War of the Fallen Son, Ausixen deals the final blow to Maurger, ending his threat permanently. In the aftermath, he discovers that his student, Amalteah has betrayed him a second time, giving up her life to birth one last egg from Maurger's clutch. Devastated, he retreats to his lair to care for the orphans Wurunwa and Osearir, uncertain if he should ever rise again.
503-Present: Walking to find no Festival of Ash has been held in his absence, he arranges for another, and begins to gain new life. Adopting a young hatchling, Velsyena, and daring to hope again, but ever cautious, Maekrux begins once more into Istaria, with plans of reviving the Academy that Maurger corrupted...

Physical Description
Horned ancient blue with no decals. Last name means Blue-Steel, which is the color his family sported. They have dulled with time and are mostly just a dirty blue. Rarely seen, beneath each wings are two travertine runes, fused into his scales. These keep Maekrux in Istaria or which ever realm he visits. His left wing is a bit crooked, having been broken once before, but it is hardly noticeable.
Guild Affiliations
Guildleader of Tears of the Phoenix. This guild has actually expired and Maekrux wears the badge in honor of Correthian, his first true friend, presumed deceased.
Family Ties
Maekrux disowned himself early in his life and was not able to reconcile before his father's death at the Battle of Tazoon. As a result, Maekrux has his own family line, the Maek.
Parents and siblings
Maekrux is not allowed to speak his father's name, as is the old tradition of disownment. His mother died shortly after he was hatched, though his father never explained how. He has no siblings.
Personal relationships and close friends
Glorificia - Maekrux's first mate, a red. Died to the horrible Biped Disease, Duskael Morbidae.
Asteral - Maekrux's second mate, a gold. Faded from the realm.
Shymmer - Former Student. Maekrux's greatest success at teaching.
Amethyr - Close friend. Met when she adopted Maekrux's second son after he did.
Biniki Close friend; Maekrux considers himself her guardian.
Myrra - Saris servant, but also considered a close friend.

Children
Maekrux has had and lost several adopted children, too many to list. Some of the most important have been as follows:
Tata Hamarad - A little white, whom Maekrux helped to buy a lair. When she died, Maekrux buried her in it. It was much later that his second son would purchase the same lair and bring life back to it.
Aerioch Firebourne - Maekrux's eldest daughter and first ascended child. Former mate of Nidhogg, presumed to sleep eternally in her lair above Dralk.
-> Ausixen Firebourne - Maekrux's grandson from Aerioch and Nidhogg. Maekrux actually watches over him as his mother sleeps.
CarenathZirothos - Maekrux's eldest son, a Star Dragon, and second to ascend. Eldest of three brothers that Maekrux adopted, but the only one to survive. Due to a terrible event in Maekrux's life (see above), Carenath disowned Maekrux, but later made amends and came back into the family. He most commonly phases between Istaria and other worlds.
Daza and Athina - Adopted as a pair, Maekrux second son and younger daughter. Star Dragons. Both ascended under his watch, but due to more recent terrible events, Daza disowned him and Athina disappeared from Istaria, presumably never to return.
Birdrayga - One of Maekrux's younger daughters, a red; she has not been seen for some time and may have Faded...
Saralesa - Maekrux has taken over raising her since her mother, Amethyr, has gone missing.
Velsyena - The most recent, and possibly last, hatchling Maekrux has adopted. She is a studious blue.
In addition, Maekrux has blood children due to the interference of Drulkar. At current, these are:
Kaevaeri - "Dance of Days." Maekrux's first blood son, a blue. Time will tell if he is ever able to continue the family line that Maekrux abandoned.
Kaezala - "Twilight." Maekrux's first blood daughter, a blue. The name reflects Maekrux intentions to have no more children after events involving Kaevaeri, but time will tell if Kaezala is a twilight before the night or a new dawn.
Furthermore, Maekrux is responsible for raising a few of the orphans from the War of the Fallen Son:
Osearir Tilek - the only male of Maurger's clutch. His father was fond of him, but it was never returned.
Wurunwa Tilek - The hatchling birthed from Amalteah's sacrifice. Her name means Dream.
Places of Note
Waere Ulhar Ausixen: "Cave of the Blue Phoenix." This is Maekrux's lair in Harton Vally. Maekrux chose to lair in Harton Valley because he had many memories of Correthian here, first using it as a base in attempting to free Feladan, and later when Toril still lived there. It is perched on the highest mountain with a wonderful sunning terrace overlooking the fallow valley below.
The lair is divided into three sections: The Upper Layer, The Dragon Layer, and the Private Lair. The Upper Layer is for any creature to visit, including Naka, and consists primarily of Helian style chambers. The Dragon Layer consists solely of Lunus structures and only dragons are permitted to visit. He has a Guest Quarter also dedicated to visitors in this area, though he rarely finds a use for it. The Private Lair is for his family alone and contains most of his family's living space and the brood chamber, which is left fallow due to Maekrux's condition.
Maekrux's lair is as a blue dragon's might be - laced with several traps. Some are marvels of engineering, some are based on his runic prowess, and some are constructed of his own devise through Primal means. So far, only two of these defenses have been revealed: the Prime Barrier at his lair's entrance, and the Runic Dragon, spawned from powerful runes placed upon a living mural. No external enemy has ever seen the traps and defenses beyond the foyer.
For the most part, however, Maekrux is a very friendly and trusting dragon and these traps are rarely in full active status. In fact, these defenses were only installed after Maekrux realized a fellow dragon had broken into his lair and stolen from him - an act that helped to shake his faith around his 325th year. He has been less so in recent years, and so greets most at his terrace and lets few enter that are not his family.
