From Istaria (Order Shard) Roleplay Wiki

There has been a request to completely close down user registration on this wiki and require new users to register through an administrator having them verify the account prior to allowing them to post.

While this will eliminate spam on the wiki it will also prevent new users from being able to immediately add content until they are verified adding an extra barrier to entry.

What is everyone's opinion on this possible policy change?

Seventhus - I agree to this, as the spam needs to be stopped somehow.

It is unfortunate that it has come to this, but I do think that the hassle involved with having new users register in this manner will be less than the hassle involved in undoing the damage that the spammers sometimes do. I recall more than one occasion where probably in excess of twenty pages were defaced at once. So, while it pains me that it has to be done, I support this measure. - Raptress

It pains me as well. That is why I want to be really sure about doing this. There are people that are dedicated to keep this place clean and will combat the spam and it does inconvenience them but it also does not add any barrier of entry. Which is the lesser of evils? -- Tsargoth

I suppose this idea, it would make less work for me, since it seems to be the main issue here. We're getting a lot of random spammers and I'm hoping this would eliminate the problem. --Tigris 18:30, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
