Concept

The original concept of a WorldProjects team began on Dawn, Expanse, and Spirit shards prior to merger, to help build such things as the Feladan blight cleansing machines, open the satyr mines, and help build the Novo machine prior to merger. After merger, it was suggested that this shard effort be continued to help build the new machines and bridges across Istaria. The suggestion was put in the forums by Tokoz as follows:

Once upon a time, in a shard now far, far, away, the leaders of the various guilds of Spirit would meet to discuss current issues and world projects. While the boards have helped to make more of that communication possible, I miss the chance to see other leaders and the sense of community that such a meeting brings.
One of the great advantages of Horizons as I see it, is that sense of community and I for one, would like to see that expanded. If such meetings are taking place, I'm not aware of them. If that is the case, then my apologies for the huge presumption that I'm about to take.
I'd like to call a World Guild Leaders meeting, Thursday, June 16 at 2000 (8:00pm) Eastern. It will be held at the theater in Dalimond. All Leaders, their Representatives or Unguilded people intested in community involvement are welcome.
Because I have no idea yet how this will be received, I don't have much of an agenda yet. Seems like introductions, with a brief summary of guild assets would be a good staring point. I'd like to also discuss the status of various community structures and hopefully co-ordinate work on those most needed.
Any other input is greatly appreciated. I'm going to try and contact guilds in game, but people being pro-active and contacting me would be greatly appreciated.
Hope this works. It's been too long.

Later in the forum thread, the development followed as such, again by Tokoz:

The meeting should not last more than an hour. I want to encourage future meetings and long boring meetings are not something anyone wants. So if we don't get through all the agenda items on the first meeting, we'll just schedule more meetings.
The agenda so far:
1. Introductions. Each guild or community member will have a chance to give their name, and list what assets they feel like they bring to the community. Very short and concise. No reason to be long winded. "Hi, I'm Plink from Refiner's Fire. We have access to players with construction skill about level 60 average. We are not very strong on the adventurer side."
2. Chair: We need to decide who is going to chair future meetings. I'm willing to put these together week after week if that's what it takes, but I also would like to see as much involvement from the community as possible. That's the purpose of all this.
3. World Project Team: We need one. We need people to volunteer for it and we need to set down what specifically that team does.
4. The Dwarven mines in Lesser Aradoth. Concensus is that those need to be worked on. So far there is no plan of action, its random, and we have a stronger community than that. Working this project allows the World Project Team to do their job and report at the next meeting.
5. Consigners: What can we as a community do to ensure that new players are feeling welcome and that sufficient supplies are placed on consigners? Getting and keeping new players helps us as well as Tulga.
6. Plot issues. Can we come to an agreement to request that older communities be given a well and sand pit like the newer communities, and that all plots be made RCI, since new communities are all RCI? Are there more pressing issues that we would like to bring to Tulga's attention as a community?
That's more than an hour, I'm sure, but if there's something I'm missing that is more urgent, please correct me. If you can't get to the theater for some reason, send Plink a tell and he'll invite you into the channel.

Definition of WorldProjects

As was put in the Order Shard Community Charter (later repealed), WorldProjects are as follows:

  • World Projects are defined as: "Projects which specifically are not associated with any particular person, guild, or plot." (Examples include the Elmnic logging camp, Selen-Balit Island bridge, Kion lighthouse, dwarven mines).
  • These projects may include any building, crafting, or adventuring necessary and sufficient to advance the course of an Official Event, open new territory for the free use of all Gifted of Order, or repair/rebuild publicly owned structures that will be open to all once completed.
  • In the cases of machinery lacking for resources to be processed, the World Projects may also include an indivdual, guild, or plot structure deemed necessary by the landowners of the community and with full agreement by the person owning said structure within the lacking region. (By example, Kaaii's carpentry hall in Genevia during the period that Cedar's Cove did not have the woodworking bench).
  • The World Projects team shall maintan an in-character chat channel for the coordination of any ongoing project(s).
  • Those who work on the World Projects understand and acknowledge that this is voluntary effort and no reimbursement is made for travel, nor is any profit made by working on such projects.

[06/16/05 18:26:35] [Community: Plink] If a discussion is taking longer than you think it should, please send me a tell asking we table that topic until the next meeting. We'll vote and if the majority wishes to table it, we will. This will prevent things from dragging out too long.

[06/16/05 18:26:49] [Community: Xerses] Xerses of Dark Watchers, Recruiter.

[06/16/05 18:27:36] [Community: Plink] the agenda for tonight is basically to get community meetings going again. If you're here, you obviously feel that that is needed on at lleast some level.

[06/16/05 18:29:00] [Community: Plink] We'll first talk about basic order of the meetings and get some input on how we want them lead, then we'll discuss making a World Project Team.

[06/16/05 18:30:02] [Community: Plink] If there's time, we'll discuss the Dwarven mines as a project, how to help new players so that we can keep them playing, and last of all some things that we feel we can suggest to Tulga.

[06/16/05 18:31:05] [Community: Plink] First topic. Do we want to have one person lead these meetings or do we want to rotate that role?

[06/16/05 18:31:31] [Community: Xerses] rotation would be best suited in my opinon

[06/16/05 18:31:56] [Community: Zendarious] a rotation or a council would be best, this way nothing is set on one persons shoulders alone.

[06/16/05 18:32:01] [Community: Asteral] Yes, but how would one decided the next leader? Other than a vote perhaps before the meeting ajourns?

[06/16/05 18:32:01] [Community: Goibhnie] I'd say one, keeps things easy. But, would be bad if said person missed for some reason or another.

[06/16/05 18:32:01] [Community: Swiftflight] rotataion keep people happy, however one dedicated person wil probably keep it going longer. just my opinion

[06/16/05 18:32:01] [Community: Bazzikathiss] either is fine, I think rotation would be better than making one person do all the work )

[06/16/05 18:32:06] [Community: Argentum] well, with folks comingand going from extended breaks... rotation would be best to keep it from dying again

[06/16/05 18:32:10] [Community: Frisco] I think Rotation would be best, because it gives people a chance to not be locked into being there for a meeting etc, better to not burn people out as well

[06/16/05 18:32:10] [Community: Plink] The role of chairing the meetings is not intended to be a leadership position, more of an administrative one.

[06/16/05 18:32:12] [Community: Draxxis] *nods* or rather than rotating, maybe having people request "speaking time"

[06/16/05 18:32:43] [Community: Vesh] Speaking time would be good, would just need someone to over see the meetings

[06/16/05 18:32:53] [Community: Delight] i agree

[06/16/05 18:32:56] [Community: Frisco] *agrees w/ Vesh*

[06/16/05 18:33:01] [Community: Frisco] Like a moderator

[06/16/05 18:33:03] [Community: Draxxis] Aye, a "master of ceremonies".

[06/16/05 18:33:10] [Community: Swiftflight] One person to guide, and allocate meeting times

[06/16/05 18:33:16] [Community: Dkor] I agree with vesh

[06/16/05 18:33:16] [Community: Goibhnie] I have a suggestion, perhaps guilds host it rather one person and we go to said guilds plot.

[06/16/05 18:33:18] [Community: Vesh] Yes, we could do a random roll to see who gets it for that meeting

[06/16/05 18:33:48] [Community: Asteral] Some plots may not be accesable for all levels...well safely anyway

[06/16/05 18:33:55] [Community: Kortex] that sounds the best

[06/16/05 18:33:58] [Community: Plink] I'm willing to put these together and take notes and everything else it entails, but I don't want people to feel like that means there's one person in charge.

[06/16/05 18:34:02] [Community: Frisco] Yeah - Though that is a neat idea.

[06/16/05 18:34:11] [Community: Draxxis] I like Goibhnie's suggestion. Will allow some less cramped scenery.

[06/16/05 18:34:28] [Community: Bahomute] i suggest taz theater next time

[06/16/05 18:34:36] [Community: Plink] My guildhouse is even smaller. :p

[06/16/05 18:34:40] [Community: Frisco] What about having it in Taz Collesuym?

[06/16/05 18:34:50] [Community: Bazzikathiss] it is ok if we attend via chat channel though, yes?

[06/16/05 18:34:50] [Community: Plink] that's an excellent idea. :)

[06/16/05 18:34:52] [Community: Draxxis] *shrugs* I'd nominate Plink to spread the word of these, and organize them like he has with this.

[06/16/05 18:34:53] [Community: Malendryn] Thatd be my suggestion as well.

[06/16/05 18:34:56] [Community: Bahomute] thats what i said

[06/16/05 18:34:57] [Community: Frisco] Its outside the city, and bigger

[06/16/05 18:35:10] [Community: Kepesk] I like Goibhnie's suggestion.

[06/16/05 18:35:11] [Community: Vesh] Bigger would be better, less cramped

[06/16/05 18:35:19] [Community: Frisco] Oh Oh Theater = Collesuem

[06/16/05 18:35:23] [Community: Vignar] Is this dragon only? Why not a dragon location..Like the Lava Pools in Dralk like has been held before.

[06/16/05 18:35:25] [Community: Frisco] Sorry didn't mean to steal your idea

[06/16/05 18:35:26] [Community: Swiftflight] is taz theater going to be accesable to low levels ?

[06/16/05 18:35:28] [Community: Asteral] Yes, and i don't have to...loose my wings *snorts*

[06/16/05 18:35:41] [Community: C`gan] This isn't dragon-only, Vignar. This is for all guilds.

[06/16/05 18:35:48] [Community: Draxxis] Yes, there is a lovely group of - Yes, those lava pools is perfect. Just above the hermit's cave.

[06/16/05 18:35:52] [Community: C`gan] Actually, for all members of the Order shard.

[06/16/05 18:36:15] [Community: Plink] Ok, so for starters let's vote on having the meetings in Tazoon next time. Let loose your vote and I'll count them. :)

[06/16/05 18:36:18] [Community: Cerryn] I think there may be many varying views of how to do this, so format etc. for next meeting might be a topic for the forums.

[06/16/05 18:36:27] [Community: Malendryn] Aye

[06/16/05 18:36:30] [Community: Goibhnie] aye

[06/16/05 18:36:31] [Community: Vesh] For taz

[06/16/05 18:36:32] [Community: Asteral] Aye

[06/16/05 18:36:32] [Community: Plink] aye

[06/16/05 18:36:33] [Community: Eliora] aye

[06/16/05 18:36:34] [Community: Bahomute] Aye

[06/16/05 18:36:34] [Community: Delight] aye

[06/16/05 18:36:36] [Community: Cera] aye

[06/16/05 18:36:36] [Community: Frisco] I would suggest not limiting this to only guildmembers, like C`gan said, because we need to promote ALL players to activly participate in the shard

[06/16/05 18:36:38] [Community: Frisco] aye

[06/16/05 18:36:38] [Community: Cerryn] aye

[06/16/05 18:36:38] [Community: Dkor] I vote Taz collesuem

[06/16/05 18:36:45] [Community: C`gan] Aye.

[06/16/05 18:36:45] [Community: Draxxis] ...*grumblers* Nay to Tazoon.

[06/16/05 18:36:55] [Community: Plink] This is for all players.

[06/16/05 18:36:55] [Community: Jesper] aye

[06/16/05 18:37:00] [Community: Xerses] aye

[06/16/05 18:37:01] [Community: Swiftflight] is it acessable to low levels?

[06/16/05 18:37:07] [Community: Bahomute] yes

[06/16/05 18:37:08] [Community: Zendarious] Taz sounds good.

[06/16/05 18:37:11] [Community: Kepesk] Aye

[06/16/05 18:37:12] [Community: Swiftflight] aye

[06/16/05 18:37:12] [Community: Frisco] Yes Swiftlight, it's just outside the south gate

[06/16/05 18:37:15] [Community: Bazzikathiss] yea for tazoon with the understanding that you do not need to be physically present :P

[06/16/05 18:37:23] [Community: Frisco] it's also free to travel to

[06/16/05 18:37:34] [Community: Jesper] very true

[06/16/05 18:37:37] [Community: Warsong] Greetings sorry im late

[06/16/05 18:37:40] [Community: Goibhnie] Perhaps, we can in time vary location providing safe travel to those that need it.

[06/16/05 18:37:44] [Community: Frisco] Welcome Warsong

[06/16/05 18:38:12] [Community: Plink] I'll close the vote then now. The next meeting will be in Tazoon theater.

[06/16/05 18:38:13] [Community: Bahomute] so sofar only one doesnt like tazoon

[06/16/05 18:38:31] [Community: Bahomute] goody goody

[06/16/05 18:38:35] [Community: Draxxis] *mutters something about humans*

[06/16/05 18:38:40] [Community: Swiftflight] Can we organise a rep from tulga to be present at these meetings?

[06/16/05 18:38:43] [Community: Malendryn] Tazoon is safe and free access to all of every level.

[06/16/05 18:39:02] [Community: Warsong] *mutters something about dragons muttering about humans*

[06/16/05 18:39:04] [Community: Plink] Next vote. Do I keep putting these together each week, does someone else step up to that or do we rotate?

[06/16/05 18:39:05] [Community: Eliora] *mutters something about rude dragons*

[06/16/05 18:39:11] [Community: Draxxis] (lol)

[06/16/05 18:39:29] [Community: Jesper] *swats a fly with tail*

[06/16/05 18:39:35] [Community: Bazzikathiss] maybe have Plink do it until things get settled then see about rotating?

[06/16/05 18:39:40] [Community: C`gan] Must they be weekly?

[06/16/05 18:39:42] [Community: Eliora] weekly ?

[06/16/05 18:39:56] [Community: Bahomute] this sounds more of a monthly thing to me [06/16/05 18:40:00] [Community: Swiftflight] Aye Plink to organise with rotating guilds charing [06/16/05 18:40:04] [Community: Frisco] Well isn't this also to organize player events? [06/16/05 18:40:05] [Community: Draxxis] I think biweekly would be better.

[06/16/05 18:40:12] [Community: Plink] We will settle on frequency eventually but until we get started I think there's enough to discuss weekly.

[06/16/05 18:40:15] [Community: Cerryn] Yeah, I'd go with biweekly.

[06/16/05 18:40:17] [Community: Fennin] Fortnightly or monthly, imo.

[06/16/05 18:40:49] [Community: Plink] All those in favor of me putting these together until things get settled?

[06/16/05 18:40:54] [Community: Malendryn] I'd vote, lets see how tonight goes, see what questions are unresolved, and get a feel for the oftenness at that time.

[06/16/05 18:40:56] [Community: Goibhnie] qye

[06/16/05 18:40:57] [Community: Cerryn] aye

[06/16/05 18:40:59] [Community: Asteral] aye

[06/16/05 18:40:59] [Community: Swiftflight] aye

[06/16/05 18:40:59] [Community: Dalviane] Aye

[06/16/05 18:40:59] [Community: C`gan] aye

[06/16/05 18:40:59] [Community: Vesh] aye

[06/16/05 18:41:00] [Community: Dkor] aye

[06/16/05 18:41:03] [Community: Delight] aye

[06/16/05 18:41:03] [Community: Bazzikathiss] aye

[06/16/05 18:41:03] [Community: Ceinlys] aye

[06/16/05 18:41:04] [Community: Delvie] aye

[06/16/05 18:41:05] [Community: Frisco] Aye

[06/16/05 18:41:06] [Community: Keubzeikevr] aye

[06/16/05 18:41:07] [Community: Draxxis] aye

[06/16/05 18:41:16] [Community: Plink] Any opposed?

[06/16/05 18:41:29] [Community: Warsong] Nay

[06/16/05 18:41:34] [Community: Xivly] no

[06/16/05 18:41:40] [Community: Warsong] we have to have at least one

[06/16/05 18:41:42] [Community: Frisco] Even though Plink is a bug you ok in my book *winks*

[06/16/05 18:41:50] [Community: Malendryn] will go for Aye

[06/16/05 18:42:02] [Community: Plink] Next item then.

[06/16/05 18:42:51] [Community: Plink] The community could really use a team of players that goes around assessing World Projects and giving them a priority, in my opinion.

[06/16/05 18:43:10] [Community: Draxxis] I agree.

[06/16/05 18:43:25] [Community: Dalviane] For new players like me can someone define"world project" and what they do?

[06/16/05 18:43:31] [Community: Swiftflight] Indeed

[06/16/05 18:43:41] [Community: Fennin] There is, funily enough the chat tab is named "WorldProjects"

[06/16/05 18:43:42] [Community: Goibhnie] C`gan I believe has something to say on the subject.

[06/16/05 18:43:59] [Community: Plink] And it's often empty.

[06/16/05 18:44:03] [Community: C`gan] World projects are large-scale buildings that require more construction than is feasibly possible for one person or guild.

[06/16/05 18:44:14] [Community: C`gan] They are not associated with any one person, guild, or plot.

[06/16/05 18:44:17] [Community: Malendryn] Levity used to have a strong hand in world projects. Dont know about these days tho.

[06/16/05 18:44:19] [Community: Warsong] we have had this for a while all those interested in helping with world projects can join the world projects channel

[06/16/05 18:44:38] [Community: Frisco] And sometimes they open up new areas, free races, or have an impact on gameplay

[06/16/05 18:44:50] [Community: C`gan] Examples include: Elmnic logging camp (finished), Selen Bridge (unfinished), new mines and lighthouses added with this patch.

[06/16/05 18:44:51] [Community: Draxxis] It's the first I've heard of the channel. Perhaps some advertisment would get more support.

[06/16/05 18:45:16] [Community: Plink] I also think that some direction would greatly help the channel.

[06/16/05 18:45:36] [Community: Fennin] Check the community boards, there are a few posts regarding world projects.

[06/16/05 18:45:38] [Community: C`gan] Many of our regular WorldProjects channel team are here now.

[06/16/05 18:45:43] [Community: Draxxis] Do you propose to offer direction, Plink?

[06/16/05 18:45:57] [Community: Swiftflight] perhaps we vote someone to be incharge of the world projects team

[06/16/05 18:46:06] [Community: Plink] No I propose to make an official team that everyone agrees offers that direction.

[06/16/05 18:46:07] [Community: Dalviane] I think Plink has enough from the buffet on his platter

[06/16/05 18:46:14] [Community: Bahomute] i would be able to help some as an alt (Cluod)

[06/16/05 18:46:18] [Community: C`gan] We keep in contact out of game in the forums under the Construction and Housing forum in Istarian Life and also the Community subforum in the Order Shard forum.

[06/16/05 18:47:27] [Community: C`gan] We are not limited to needing only persons with construction classes.

[06/16/05 18:47:30] [Community: Dalviane] I'll volunteer....

[06/16/05 18:47:31] [Community: Goibhnie] all 3 parts Vignar?

[06/16/05 18:48:20] [Community: Plink] Excellent response. More than I hoped. :)

[06/16/05 18:48:25] [Community: Fennin] That's right C`gan. We often have Dragons flying resources, if we can manage to get a decent team together.

[06/16/05 18:48:42] [Community: Vignar] Oooh

[06/16/05 18:48:44] [Community: Plink] I suggest C`gan to lead this team.

[06/16/05 18:48:57] [Community: Swiftflight] ill be happy to fly resources in once i can fly

[06/16/05 18:49:03] [Community: C`gan] Not only flying, but if we can get several persons making raw materials for a construction crafter to process into units to be placed, the speed really kicks in.

[06/16/05 18:49:04] [Community: Xivly] I vote C'gan

[06/16/05 18:49:16] [Community: C`gan] *blinks*

[06/16/05 18:50:28] [Community: C`gan] I will accept.

[06/16/05 18:50:31] [Community: Plink] Do you want it? I assumed that would be right up your alley. :)

[06/16/05 18:50:31] [Community: Eliora] lol

[06/16/05 18:50:38] [Community: Swiftflight] *Pats.. errr tries not to claw C'gan on the back*

[06/16/05 18:50:46] [Community: Plink] Excellent. Congratulations. :)

[06/16/05 18:50:53] [Community: C`gan] That's the thing. It IS right up my alley since I work all five construction classes.

[06/16/05 18:51:23] [Community: C`gan] I am not up to tier 3 on most of them yet.

[06/16/05 18:51:34] [Community: Plink] It will come. :)

[06/16/05 18:51:36] [Community: Warsong] Community I must leave Olvander is the represenative of the Iron Circle

[06/16/05 18:51:40] [Dragon: Pulsaar] hello can anyone tell me where they have moved the cedar treants to plez

[06/16/05 18:51:52] [Community: Kepesk] I don't think skill is necessarily required so much as leadership, C`gan. ;)

[06/16/05 18:51:59] [Community: Vignar] I see what you are talking about now, middle section is 51.2%.

[06/16/05 18:52:04] [Community: Ceinlys] most world projet i've seen goes up to T2

[06/16/05 18:52:07] [Community: Delvie] Skill is also very nice:)

[06/16/05 18:52:16] [Community: Plink] Next item of business. The Dwarven Mines.

[06/16/05 18:52:29] [Community: Fennin] That falls under community projects, no?

[06/16/05 18:52:58] [Community: C`gan] It does.

[06/16/05 18:53:00] [Community: Fennin] I say next topic is community projects, not two mines in particular.

[06/16/05 18:53:11] [Community: Mystif] c'gan I am willing to help - I can do all up to t4 and some t5 work on all 5 building classes

[06/16/05 18:53:22] [Community: Plink] Yes, but I'd like to suggest that we start with those, sinse it looks like those house tier I resources.

[06/16/05 18:53:33] [Community: Draxxis] Why don't we hear what Plink would like to discuss about them first?

[06/16/05 18:53:46] [Community: Delight] i agree draxxis

[06/16/05 18:53:47] [Community: Swiftflight] i agree, let Plink speak

[06/16/05 18:53:55] [Community: Plink] Specific order of project will be determined by the Community WorldProject Team.

[06/16/05 18:53:58] [Community: Bazzikathiss] we did elect to run the meetings after all :P

[06/16/05 18:54:15] [Community: Swiftflight] *this* meeting

[06/16/05 18:54:24] [Community: Delvie] been gone for a while - are the mines partially done?

[06/16/05 18:54:40] [Community: Plink] Yes. They need leadership badly.

[06/16/05 18:54:53] [Community: Draxxis] I assume, Plink, you are refering to the mine recently discovered that leads into the Kion Volcano?

[06/16/05 18:54:57] [Community: Delvie] any idea what's left on them?

[06/16/05 18:55:04] [Community: Dalviane] I'm not sure about anywhere else but there's a new one south of Kion where the gemstones used to be

[06/16/05 18:55:05] [Community: Plink] It's more of a suggestion to the newly formed Team. That's all.

[06/16/05 18:55:26] [Community: Draxxis] A wise suggestion, to be sure. I second it.

[06/16/05 18:55:27] [Community: C`gan] Since I'd only heard of them today, I've not even had time to scope them out.

[06/16/05 18:55:55] [Community: C`gan] I do believe that priority projects should be ones that lead to new areas of discovery and challenge for the shard as a whole.

[06/16/05 18:55:55] [Community: Plink] Then we will wait until we hear back from the Community WorldProject Team on that. Next item of business.

[06/16/05 18:56:00] Dkor says, 'going to be replaced by a mine like in aug'

[06/16/05 18:56:11] [Community: Draxxis] (Esepcially if we want to help new players, I've heard compliants about lack of Tier I Gems)

[06/16/05 18:56:56] [Community: Plink] We have just enought time for one more quick item and then we'll see when the next meeting will be. :)

[06/16/05 18:56:58] [Community: Dalviane] Aye, the tier 1 gems that used to south of Kion are gone and must be found off of the golems...not always easy

[06/16/05 18:57:36] [Community: C`gan] Agreed, let us table the world projects until next meeting so that the team can assess what projects we do have. We have a list on the forums to update.

Projects

The initial list was kept on the forums for public viewing to see not only location of the different WorldProjects, but also the resources placed and resources needed. C`gan introduced this list (originally as a discussion) as follows:

To assist with the World Projects Team, and to help advertise it's existence, I am trying to assemble the information here on the current World Projects.
For those who do not know, we have a channel, WorldProjects, in game. It is a meeting place for persons willing to work on the current list of projects that are not associated with any particular person, guild, or plot. Rather, these construction jobs are for the community as a whole and are found across the empire. Past completed projects include the Elmnic logging camp, the Garnet Bay gemworking hut, North Dalimond Ridge essence circle (my error. Sanctuary Bay is much further west of this than I remembered), Copperton's second smelter (further downhill and has both smelter and anvil), and others.
Builders (those having construction classes), runners (persons who may or may notcraft particular resources but who give of their time to take resources from the field toplace on projects)and resource processors (those not having construction classes, but having the skills to process resources) are all appreciated and welcome.
Now, why do we bring this to the public? In the past, we have kept in the background of activity, taking on projects for the community only to announce their completion. However, we are finding more projects to be undertaken and fewer persons to assist in this. One suggestion has been to bring the team to the public eye. That is the reason for this forum.
Over the next two weeks, the team plans on re-examining all the projects and providing an update on the status of each. If anyone wishes to assist with this resurveying, please send a reply here or join us in the WorldProjects (space intentionally left out) channel. First off, let us work up a list of projects in process and what is remaining to be done. I suggest the following format for this:
Project Name: (example Elmnic logging camp)
Location: (either coordinates or good description of how to get there. example Elmnic, road southwest, first turn left)
Resources:
(listing resources: how many are complete/how many total. example Sandstone blocks: 37/500 where 37 is the number of units completed already and 500 is the total number of units for that particular construction unit)
Many thanks to those who volunteered for the World Projects team and I invite all builders, runners, and processors to join the WorldProjects channel to make our Istaria better for the general populace.

The list of projects began as follows:

  • Kion Mineshaft (20313/23913)
  • Abandoned Island Ore Refinery (18039/24573)
  • Selen-Balit Bridge (3 spans, 26116/21571, 26107/21411, and 26099/21257)
  • Selen-Lerena Rope Bridge (26916/22268)
  • Abandoned Island Gemhall (17679/24553)
  • Kion Manor (20257/24425)
  • Kion Masonry Hall East (20493/22737)
  • Kion Lighthouse (20098/24554)
  • Sslanis Mineshaft (19877/22268)
  • Fabric Island Tailor Hut (20207/18678)
  • Valley of Repose Essence Circle (25304/35639)
  • Grayling Small Gazebo (28722/20605)
  • Valley of Repose Tailor Hall (26427/35378)
  • Grayling Ivy Archway (28654/20655)
  • Valley of Repose Tannery (25285/34644)
  • Grayling Magic Artifact (28668/20525)
  • Grayling Large Gazebo (28714/20380)
  • Kirasanct/Morathaven Tailor Hall (23492/27474)
  • Ruxus Rope Bridge 2 (21869/20886)
  • Ice Island Jewler Hall (27499/32109)
  • Valley of Repose Masonry Hall (25200/34945)
  • Duskhold Guard Hut (22302/26060)

It should also be noted that several other projects, though deemable as WorldProjects, were not completed specifically by the WorldProjects Team. They were undertaken by guilds, individuals, and groups of people who chose to either remain anonymous or stay separate from the Team or for the sake of guild cohesion in group activities.

During this time, also, the only exception to the WorldProjects Team definition came up. At one point, finishing machines were removed from the field. As such, Cedar's Cove was left with no woodworking bench. Kaaii owned a plot in northeastern Genevia and offered her beginner carpentry hall to the WorldProjects Team to be built specifically for the woodworking bench.

The First Hurdle

It was also during this point of increased enthusiasm for completing the WorldProjects builds that the first hurdle was encountered, not by size of project, but by criticism from players. It was nine days after the vote and the project list had been posted.

Brassandyn wrote in the discussion forum:

I am severely disappointed in all of you for taking from newcomers to these lands any chance they had at working on a project like this.
I therefore propose a new "nerf" that crafters who do not gain experience from world projects may not apply resources.
Shameful.

This one forum post did plenty of damage. Even though several of the community members spoke out against this one post, their resposes could not sway the view of the WorldProjects Team at that time. Suddenly, medium- to high-level crafters quit coming around as often to volunteer services. Lower-level crafters were not finding their way to the WorldProjects channel.

Rebuilding in Teams

In the aftermath of the posting in the forums, C`gan took a different direction with the WorldProjects Team, instead of allowing it to fizzle out.

The first suggestion implemented came from Pharcellus:

That latter part brings up a point. Especially for larger projects, it is sometimes not in the best interests for all who put effort into a structure to have it completed when they can't see it pop. If a small fraction of the team is on when the last unit is ready to be placed, I would suggest holding off on that unit until the others can be on to witness it being placed. Yes, there is always a chance that someone not associated with the team will happen by, notice that there is only one unit left, and place it, thinking that it was accidentally or incidentally left undone. However, it is unlikely. As for the team members, especially our newer, younger ones, it would be a welcome courtesy to have a chance to see their hard work come to fruition visibly as scaffolding turns into the finished product.

The suggestion led to what would be termed Ribbon Cuttings or Grand Openings.

The second major implementation was a result of what Brassandyn had said, followed up by new projects that had been put in. C`gan wrote:

Ok, here's the result of a test put through to the World Projects Team (whether or not they knew about it).
Back on June 25, a gauntlet was thrown down to the Team to have only those who gain experience for resources work them for the World Projects. Shortly afterward, the Aughundell and Mithril's Anvil mines with resource needs up to tier 5 were put in. A couple weeks ago, the team was handed the delightful adventure/craft challenge of the yew field outpost north of Harro. I am proud to report that our high-level crafters have performed admirably in getting the tier 4 and 5 content completed, as is in evidence in the project list here:
http://community.istaria.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8103&page=5
Now for the down side. As you look at the numbers of the current resurvey done last night, please note that the tier 1-3 resources are lacking. We also have higher tier builders who are lacking things to do with World Projects. Raising a single team for construction is getting difficult during the week, partly due to members' guild responsibilities, partly due to members' own construction efforts being diverted to their own plots, partly for other reasons. I know at least three of the tier 4 and 5 builders I've talked with are completely shut down because of this experience requirement and are waiting for new projects to open up. Tier 1-3 builders as well are having difficulty getting involved in teams because, quite honestly, there aren't teams forming up. Individual efforts right now are carrying the World Projects.
To help remedy this, and at community request, I started pushing the Build-A-Thon weekends. We have our second one coming up at the end of next week. However, I would like to get all the builders involved in this effort. I would like to ask community guidance on whether or not to open up the lower tiers to our higher tier builders. Projects besides the four heavily-pressed ones are still needing completion. Adventurers have been contacting me on Selen-Balit bridge. And, to be truthful, I have some very depressed builders who want to ply their trades for the good of the community, but have been pressured not to. I will be bringing this up for discussion at the next community meeting and I bring it up here.
Where does the Order shard community stand on this?

The responses were well met. People across Order shard signed up for Build-A-Thon weekends, helping pull in lower-level crafters. The project list grew with the following additions:

  • Dikaina Lighthouse (27040/20280)
  • Dikaina Artifact of Magic (27244/20085)
  • Grayling Lighthouse (28811/20352)
  • Dryart Lampposts
  • Falathien Lampposts
  • Falathien Large Gazebo (30301/29082)
  • Falathien Wooden Archway 1 (30062/28973)
  • Falathien Wooden Archway 2 (30103/28973)
  • Falathien Wooden Archway 3 (30400/29190)
  • Falathien Wooden Archway 4 (30400/29218)
  • Meadowhill Brick City Gate (27381/28316)
  • Meadowhill Lampposts
  • Meadowhill Large Wooden Archway (27167/28423)
  • Meadowhill Lighthouse (27040/28216)
  • Meadowhill Small Gazebo (27300/28381)
  • Meadowhill Wooden Archway 1 (27166/28465)
  • Meadowhill Wooden Archway 2 (27069/28271)
  • Tishlar Lampposts

The Outpost

Around this time, a new outpost was built northwest of Harro, to assist in the effort against the Withered Aegis in the Eastern Deadlands. This was the first build in which adventurers were also needed to defend the runners and placers for resources as they were brought in by inventory and diskfulls. With each new load, the Aegis forces seemed to attack with greater ferocity, requiring more adventurers to answer the call to defend.

  • Harro Yewfield Outpost (28710/25672)

The Mines

Another round of additions came in to bolster community effort in building the projects. These were in response to the community needing higher tiers of metals.

  • Aughundell Dwarven Mineshaft (25582/24878)
  • Mithril's Anvil Dwarven Mineshaft (26864/24825)
  • New Trismus Dwarven Mineshaft (45709/14277)
  • Yewn Dwarven Mineshaft (27739/15911)

These were in addition to the previously-mentioned Kion and Sslanis Mineshafts.

The Cenotaphs

As the mineshafts were being completed, four new cenotaphs were found in the Eastern Deadlands to be built. Chaos shard appeared to have begun them earlier than Order shard, according to the forums. However, Order shard members had chosen not to reveal how the different teams had been forming up an flying resources in by dragon to high-level builders who were also high-level adventurers, able to fend off the Aegis forces in the area.

The cenotaphs are:

  • Metal (29282/26008)
  • Stone (29672/25964)
  • Magic (29880/25076)
  • Wooden (30369/25023)

Dragon Builds

While the biped aspect of the WorldProjects Team was busy with Build-A-Thons and Ribbon Cuttings, the dragons of Istaria were finding out they too had projects to build. Dragon lairshaping had recently been introduced, as had lairs for dragons to buy. This also allowed for dragons to have their own sets of projects for the good of the entire community as well. Not only were the placed units different, to go along with lairshaping, but the projects themselves were different. Instead of a single structure to build, the Dragon WorldProjects often had multiple chambers, corridors, crafthalls, or other rooms, each piece leading to yet another piece. These projects were mainly kept note of by dorrin and a myriad of dragons who kept up-to-date notes in the forums as well. The dragon projects include:

  • Dralk Community Lair (22237/28891)
  • Char Cobalt Lair (22380/29500)
  • Tazoon Amber Azulyte Mine (22940/24620)
  • Mahagra Titian Azulyte Mine (25040/29700)
  • Nuthala Crystalshaper Lair (19735/23240)
  • New Trismus Lair (45755/14464)
  • Chiconis Community Lair (24470/21846)
  • Imperial Cavern (27562/24354)
  • Ker'tis Amber Mine (24720/39200)

The Second Hurdle

In 2006, another major disruption hampered the WorldProjects Team. This one, though, was not from the players, but from the powers behind Istaria. A great darkness fell over the land, greater than the Aegis and it's forces. This darkness affected the entire community adversely as the world suddenly stagnated. Community members once shining in their efforts against the Aegis forces were suddenly gone. Others for reasons unknown were severely disgruntled and chose to sleep. For more than a year, the malaise affected more and more members, dragon and biped alike. Projects once teeming with activity were now laying dormant. Resources once needed lay unused in silos. The apathy of the land grew, nearly snuffing out adventurer, crafter, and dragon alike.

As the months progressed, fewer and fewer ribbon cuttings occurred. Some projects were undertaken by specific guilds in order for them to have guild events to do something to maintain the fire in their members' spirits. As the darkness worsened, only a handful of members joined the WorldProjects Team channel. Some days, only one or two could be found there.

The WorldProjects Team nearly succumbed, down to only a few members of Obsidian Order, among which, C`gan and Tagath still maintained a presence, not only to help with the few projects still remaining that were low-priority, but to help others with insights on construction.

OOC: From July, 2006, to August, 2007, the ownership of Horizons: Empire of Istaria changed hands to an unknown group of people, at the behest of one of Tulga Games' outside investors. This company, Entertainment Interactive (EI), had only one person who knew something of gaming programming, yet was primarily focused with EI's other games it was hosting. At some point during this ownership, methods of billing were botched, causing some players of Horizons to not be billed at all for playing, while others were billed for numerous subscriptions they never had. This led to a major loss in game population. A second hindrance to the success of Horizons was EI's decision to close down the Unity shard, thereby cutting ties with IGN and cutting access for most of the non-U.S. players. Another major blow both to Horizons as a game and to Order shard was EI's decision to close down the Blight shard. With that move, all capability to edit, improve, update, or bugfix Horizons came to an end.

When legal matters over billing and payment for the sale of Horizons started going to court, EI changed it's name to EI Interactive (EII) in an attempt to avoid lawsuits. When that failed, they tried another name, PixelMagic Entertainment (PME). This also failed. Towards the end of their ownership of Horizons, they attempted to move their offices from their "central" location of Montana to Nevada, requiring yet another name change to New Game World (NGW). Nevada's court system immediately became involved due to business laws there being violated. The end result was a nearly-dead Horizons being purchased by some of the former employees of Tulga Games, re-marketing a new company called Virtrium, LLC.

The Long Wait

As the darkness of the land seemed to have total control, rumors about changes started appearing in August, 2007. Of significant note, Blight shard was once again active and changes were happening there. To spread the glimmer of hope, the WorldProjects team started undertaking the last projects on the list, certain gazebos and archways on Lerena Island, Morning Light's final wall segments, and crafthalls without the correct resources nearby. As the validity of the rumors began to unfold, new projects showed up:

  • Central Valley Large Wooden Archway (22404/21043)
  • Central Valley Lamppost
  • Central Valley Masonry Hall (22317/20910
  • Apia Large Gazebo (21346/13534)
  • Back Bay Large Gazebo 1 (26413/14990)
  • Back Bay Large Gazebo 2 (26463/15188)
  • Bristugo Brick City Wall 1 (22030/22707)
  • Bristugo Brick City Gate (22053/22711)
  • Bristugo Brick City Wall 2 (22087/22712)

These projects brought a renewed vigor to the people of Istaria. The smaller builds were undertaken by individuals, often being done quickly. Yet, the larger builds immediately brought volunteers together to form up teams for resources once again.

The toughest emotional build for the WorldProjects Team was the Morathaven Tailor Hall. It had set apart from all the other builds, being in a location with no cloth around, yet surrouned by gems and gem golems. Having been first surveyed early on in the Team's existence, it remained forlornly unbuilt. That changed with the renewed vigor in the land as the powers behind Istaria did indeed bring back the light to the world. Even the tailor hall received attention from the WorldProjects Team. However, even this ribbon cutting would be bittersweet, unbeknownst to the team. With the last resources placed, C`gan officially announced his retiremet of the WorldProjects Team Lead position, having completed the tasks set out before him in 2005. Along with the laughs and cheers of the final project being complete, there were also tears with the end of an era.

C`gan Weyrsinger Steps Down as Team Lead
With the build of Morathaven’s Cloth Hall complete, C`gan Weyrsinger of Obsidian Order announces his resignation as WorldProjects Team Lead.
His time as Team Lead began shortly after shard merger in 2004 when community meetings began. Those present were impressed by his knowledge of the large number of projects he reported. The nomination and voting were carried out before he was asked to accept the nomination.
Through the years, he oversaw many projects. These ranged from many public craft stations across the land to bridges. His favorites included the Selen-Balit bridge, Elmnic logging camp, Sanctuary Bay essence circle, and the Acul ore refinery. However, each project he oversaw and each project he aided in brought together the races of Istaria together to build for the good of Order shard. He reported the status of builds at the meetings; invited people to join the building frenzy; set up teams of gatherers, processors, runners, and placers; and invited the community to grand openings when the final pieces were installed.
Along with those projects set forth during merger, C`gan also participated in new projects added so they were completed quickly. These included assisting in the cenotaph builds, the dwarven mines, and the two outposts near Harro. While not being in the forefront of the organization itself during these, his skills as a builder helped finish the projects faster, even beating out Chaos shard in completing them.
C`gan’s time as team lead outlasted the community meetings as well as some harsh feedback from the community. Yet, the most difficult blow to his tenure was not from the community, but from his own guild. The resignation of Imayo as Preceptor of Obsidian Order put him in a difficult position of either allowing the guild to disband or to find another guildleader. Those present of the guild voted that he assume the Preceptor position. He still serves in this capacity.
C`gan wishes to thank the community for allowing him to serve in the position of WorldProjects Team Lead. He also wants to thank each and every person involved with the myriad projects completed which make Istaria more functional, more beautiful, and more pleasant for all it’s citizens. He remains a part of WorldProjects and will aid in projects to come.

The "final" builds of the WorldProjects Team to be completed were the Back Bay gazebos. Undertaken by both Takora and Karya, the gazebos brought a sense of closure and peace to Back Bay, where Roxi's statue stands nearby.

However, rumors yet abound about still new projects to be introduced. As to what will be built remains to be seen, but C`gan remains as WorldProjects Team Lead Emeritus, awaiting the community to elect an new Team Lead for the new builds.
